Go the Distance: A carefully crafted plan for teaching dogs and handlers to work comfortably at a distance in agility. The book is organised into progressive lessons which build upon fundamental skills. The authors make the point early on that distance work is a key element of success in virtually any agility game. While the book is useful for all agility competitors who want to work on distance skills, it includes sections designed to provide the agility instructor with a clearly written reference for teaching the basics of distance work in a class setting. The lesson plans are well organised and include attention to administration of the training programme as well as weekly homework assignments for students taking the course. And while the book is divided neatly into eight clear lesson plans, it also contains many exercises which can be used and reused and expanded upon. Go the Distance includes appendix by Linda Mecklenburg that cover teaching your dog a Turn command (180-degree turn), teaching Left and Right directional commands, and more. More about the authors: Bud Houston is a popular agility trainer and seminar leader. Bud is the founder and former editor of Clean Run, and today is involved with the Just For Fun Agility organisation. He lives in Ohio where he runs the Dogwood Agility Training Centre, a training camp and centre for weekly lessons in the sport. Stacy Peardot-Goudy's passion for dog training began at age 12 with a Siberian Husky, and later led to agility classes with her two Boxers. Since then she has become one of the premier agility trainers in the United States. Her accomplishments include competing successfully at national level with multiple wins in USDAA, NADAC, and AKC and representing the U.S. in international competition as a member of the USDAA/IFCS World Team in 2002, 2004, and 2006. Stacy now owns and operates C Spot Win dog training in LaPorte, Colorado, and sponsors C Spot Win camps across the county. She has developed a devoted following of seminar attendees from the U.S., Australia, Canada, Bermuda, and Costa Rica. Published: 1999 by Clean Run
